SCOTLAND - THE CAIRNGORMS NATIONAL PARK
The Cairngorms National Park
The Cairngorms National Park in autumn is a period of transition. Small patches of snow may remain in the corries from the previous winter with the promise of new snowfall at any time. From November to February the days are short and the nights long and the weather changeable with the corries and the high arctic plateau more akin to Iceland and Norway than the Alps. In the winter months the Park is an environment that can be both beautiful and wild as it reverts back to its true wilderness. Spring brings a time of melting snow and new life. As the days get longer and the nights get shorter the Cairngorms are a hive of activity as the Park gradually transforms from its winter coat to a spread of green verdant. Patches of snow remain on the higher tops and corries, often into the summer months as the flora and fauna begin their regeneration and breeding periods.
